Don’t dismiss a career in sales and marketing – the sector is still going strong…
23 sales and marketing graduate opportunities available across the island with InterTradeIreland
Many may think that thanks to the recession, the sales and marketing industry is lagging and doesn’t offer an attractive, prosperous career for bright graduates. However, this is most definitely not the case!
Studies have shown that firms that continue to invest in marketing during a recession are more likely to see growth in their business. After years in the doldrums, many marketing budgets are now being increased and according to the InterTradeIreland Business Monitor, the last quarter reported the most positive sales performance figures in two years. It has also shown that firms that export, either cross-border or further afield, significantly outperform those companies which are dependent solely on their local market.
Graduate demand in industry
Demand for ambitious graduates, from all degree backgrounds, to develop a career in sales and marketing is also on the rise. InterTradeIreland, the cross-border business support agency, through its Acumen programme, is currently offering 23 high-calibre jobs across the island with more to come in early September.
Acumen offers a 12 month opportunity with a leading SME where the graduate works with management to help grow the business by targeting new cross-border markets.
The project offers an ideal opportunity for the Graduate to develop managerial, marketing and sales skills through practical experience, whilst also completing a fully funded Post Graduate Diploma in Sales Development.
InterTradeIreland’s support
Paddy Savage, Programme Manager for InterTradeIreland, explains: “We have been running the Acumen programme for more almost ten years and the demand from SMEs for assistance in increasing their cross-border export sales, exploring new markets and identifying new business opportunities has grown steadily.
Firms greatly value the fresh ideas and the enthusiasm that ambitious graduates can bring to their business and the programme has been very successful.
“The benefits to the graduate are also invaluable. In the short-term, it offers a good salary, along with other benefits. But more importantly, the practical experience coupled with the academic back-up of the post-grad diploma leaves the graduate in an unrivalled position for developing a fulfilling, long-term career in the sales and marketing industry.
A permanent position
“85% of those who have successfully completed our graduate programmes to date have been offered employment with their host companies which is a testament to the contribution they can make to SMEs and the wider economy. So there is great potential that successful graduates will secure a permanent job after completion of the Acumen programme.”
The Acumen Sales and Marketing positions are available all across the island in a wide range of sectors from IT, engineering and agriculture through to recycling and liqueur manufacturing!
