ONE of the world’s most respected communications experts is to speak in Belfast next month.
Julian Treasure will be one of three keynote speakers at the CO3 conference at the La Mon Hotel House on March 1.
His talk, How to Speak So That People Want to Listen, is in the top 10 TED talks of all time and Treasure says his mission is ‘to transform the world by inspiring people to listen consciously and speak powerfully’.
Nora Smith, CEO of CO3, the organisation for third sector leaders in Northern said: “We’re delighted that Julian will be able to join us.
His TED talks have been watched more than 40 million times and he is a genuine global leader.
Securing him to speak in Belfast was a great coup for us.
“Julian is truly inspiring, not just in helping leaders to speak more powerfully, but just as important, to listen properly to others. This is a unique learning opportunity for all who attend.”
Two other internationally renowned speakers will join him at the conference, Dr Sam Smith and Jehangir Malik. Dr Smith is a best-selling author, entrepreneur and coach who has become a global voice on women as leaders and agents of change. Her presence at the conference could not be more timely, given the current debates about equal pay and sexual harassment.
The theme of her talk will be how to draw strength from adversity.
Jehangir Malik is the CEO of Muslim Aid, the faith-based humanitarian charity, whose work is based on the social justice principles of Islam. He also engages with government departments by providing policy briefings and strategic engagement on international development and foreign policy issues while also often visiting field missions and disaster zones for fundraising and media purposes. He will be addressing the issue of faith and prejudice.
Nora Smith added: “There is no question about the great work that third sector organisations do in health and social care, housing, criminal justice and in many more areas. But there is still potential to do more. This conference will inspire us to untap that, drawing inspiration from internationally renowned experts.”
The conference will be chaired by broadcaster Wendy Austin and will be followed by CO3’s annual leadership awards.
Tickets for the conference and awards are available through the CO3 website at www.co3.bz
