DO you dread the thought of Monday morning and the workload it brings?
DO you dread the thought of Monday morning and the workload it brings? Most people at one stage or another will suffer from stress in the workplace, but there are practical ways to manage it and even positive ways to make it work for you.
DON’T TRY TO DO TO MUCH:
Often we are our own harshest critic and put ourselves under undue pressure to be perfect. Anxiety leads to ineffectiveness. Realise that no one gets it right every time and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Focus on working to the best of your ability.
PRIORITISE:
Good organisation and time management are crucial to managing stress. Set realistic weekly and daily targets, stay on top of paperwork, and keep your work space tidy and uncluttered. Be clear what your deadlines are and complete work accordingly. Working to a to-do list will keep you on track.
TAKE REGULAR BREAKS:
Planned breaks help keep your brain focused and stop you getting distracted. Where possible try to get some fresh air during your working day.
LEARN TO SAY NO:
Helping others is one thing, but if it infringes on your own workload do not be afraid to say no. If you feel a boss is making unreasonable demands explain your schedule and ask them which tasks they would like to be given priority.
KEEP A HEALTHY WORK/ LIFE BALANCE:
Often when we are under pressure, the temptation is to cut ourselves off from the outside world. Making plans with friends and family will give you something to look forward to and keep you in a positive frame of mind. A healthy diet and physical exercise will keep energy levels high and prevent you from getting run down.
FIND A NEW JOB:
Take your time, consider your options and think how you can make your first steps towards a successful career change.
