The new academic year is on the horizon, so take a look at the following checklist (from UCAS) to make sure you’re prepared for university.
Are there any other offer conditions you need to meet?
Apart from waiting for your exam results, check whether you need to do anything else to get your place. Your university or college might have given you further requirements.
Are you prepared financially?
If you have a student loan or funding, check that all the details are sorted. Before you can be paid your first loan instalment make sure:
- You’ve submitted your application and have the correct supporting evidence.
- Your bank details are correct on your application – check your online account to make sure.
- You’ve signed and returned your declaration form.
- You’ve registered at your course provider.
- Your course provider has confirmed your attendance to the Student Loans Company.
- You’ve allowed a few working days for the funds to be paid into your bank account.
Do you have somewhere to live?
If you’re going somewhere new, make sure you’ve got somewhere to live, and think about insurance, bills (are they included?), supplies and a TV licence. You can contact your course provider if you need to arrange accommodation as they’ll be able to help. Even if you’re waiting for exam results, it’s best to check where you could live if you do get the place. Bear in mind, student accommodation can fill up pretty quickly.
Have you thought about transport?
If you’re moving away, you’ll need to plan your moving day and how you’re getting there, as well as what transport routes you might need to get to your campus.
What do you need to buy or do before your course starts?
Are there particular course materials you need to buy? Do you have any reading or research to do before your first day?
Check out the social options!
It’s a good idea to research the area and the societies and events the students’ union provides. They’ll usually put on lots of events around Freshers week so don’t miss out! Read blogs from other students as well – they might have useful tips for you.
