Hints and Tips to Making a Move
Research shows that the average adult has seven to 12 jobs in their lifetime. So how do you know when it’s time to move on from one job and what do you do if you find yourself wanting a completely new career?
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Before you can job hunt you need to think about what it is you really want to do. Consider what you enjoy, what your strengths and weaknesses are, what you like about your current role and what you don’t.
IT’S ALL ABOUT TIMING
You don’t want to leave yourself short financially and will need to prepare for the fact you may not get a new job straight away or may need to take time off employment to go back to studying. Ideally while you’re thinking about making the move you should try to put some extra savings away each month. This will take the pressure off when it comes to job hunting.
GET BACK TO BASICS
Now is the time to freshen up your CV. Consider what skills and qualities potential new employers will be looking for — those are the ones to highlight. Do make sure you include relevant work experience and in your cover letter explain why you are making the change.
STAY POSITIVE
Change doesn’t happen overnight. Concentrate on what you can do and make sure you are actively job searching rather than waiting for something to come to you. Network with people in your career field, tidy up your Linkedin profile and clean up your social media sites so that when the right job comes along you are ready
