Dreaming Of A High-Flying Career

IF you enjoy flying and like the idea of a career that gives you the opportunity to travel then a role as an air host/hostess might be for you.

Although full, on-the-job training will be provided there are certain criteria that might give you a head start:

BASIC SKILLS
Most companies will look for at least five GCSEs and a high degree of spoken English. Having a second language may be to your advantage.

EXPERIENCE
Previous work experience in a customer-serving role in a retail or hospitality environment will look good on your CV and help build up and develop transferable skills.

MEET THE REQUIREMENTS
Most airlines will require you to be physically fit and able and many will have a minimum height restriction. Often visible tattoos or piercings are not permitted and you will be asked to declare any medical conditions. They will probably ask that you are a competent swimmer. Always check a particular airline’s criteria before applying.

PERSONAL QUALITIES NEEDED
– Good team player
– Excellent communication skills
– Ability to stay calm under pressure or in an emergency
– Stamina and a willingness to work long shifts and be on standby
– You should be well presented with good personal hygiene

BE HONEST

Always tell the truth when filling out an application form because if you progress you will be subject to an extensive interview programme.

LOG ON
