TWO final year students from Ulster University have been recognised for their pioneering creations at the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Student Design Awards.
The global competition challenges young people to tackle real-world social, environmental and economic issues through creative design. With over 900 entries the RSA recognised Sharon Ross and Adam Cheung who will graduate this summer from Ulster University’s Belfast School of Art and School of Architecture.
Sharon, who studied graphic design and illustration, was crowned winner of the ‘Moving Pictures’ category with her animation that encourages people to consider how modern society is accelerating climate change. She created the animation using hundreds of individually painted frames to accompany a Royal Society of Arts lecture by Professor Richard Sennett on the need for a shift in our moral mindset when it comes to our impact on the planet.
Adam Cheung, who is graduating with a degree in product and furniture design, was also commended in the ‘Waste Not, Want Not’ category.Adam designed the Lök Fruit Bowl, which aims to combat food waste by absorbing the naturally occurring gas ethylene that is produced by fruit.
