South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is delivering a six-week construction training programme to help meet demand for skills in the industry.
The General Construction Operative (GCO) programme funded by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) will incorporate health and safety, construction plant training, basic work platforms and ground works.
Business Development Manager at SERC, Emma Tate said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for up to 15 people interested in getting a step into the construction industry or wanting to fine tune their skills but ultimately seeking potential employment as a Construction Operative.
She added: “No experience or qualifications are required. The programme is free to those selected to participate, including those currently unemployed. The programme will commence on Monday, May 20 and will run for six weeks over a four-month period at CITB in Dundrod. Lunch will be provided each day, and there will be free transport to and from the venue from Belfast City Centre via Lisburn for pick-up and set-down.
“The role of Construction Operative is one of the best jobs for those starting a career in construction. Operatives are involved in a range of practical tasks and it’s a great way to learn about the construction process. Once fully skilled and trained, operatives can progress further in the industry.”
