Commitment to Workplace training

ICT COMPANY Fujitsu has been recognised for its outstanding commitment to workplace training and employment opportunities at the Belfast Metropolitan College Skills and Apprenticeships Awards 2017.

As well as winning an Employer Recognition Award, a number of apprentices at the company were recognised for professional and technical excellence.

Adam Moran who is now a Technical Service Technician at the global firm, won the top award in the ‘Professional and Technical Areas Learner of the Year’ category. The judges applauded his commitment to learning new skills, his ability to work independently and his participation in numerous charities and educational programmes at Fujitsu. Sarah Gillespie was named runner up in the same category with judges noting the integral role she plays in customer delivery and promoting the benefits of STEM to students. Nicola Taggart and Sean Kelly were also nominated at the awards for their professional and technical performance.

Speaking about the awards, Louise Hull, apprentice programme manager at Fujitsu said: “We are delighted that a number of our apprentices have been recognised by Belfast Met for their outstanding success and commitment to professional growth. Adam and Sarah, along with our apprentices who received certificates at the ceremony, showcase the very real benefits of apprenticeship programmes to learning and career development.”

She added: “We are also thrilled to receive an Employer Recognition Award from Belfast Met in recognition of our delivery of the apprenticeship programme and the support we offer apprentices. We ensure all participants gain hands-on experience in a work environment, equipping them with the latest knowledge and key insights on ICT trends.”

The company recently appointed six new apprentices as part of an ongoing drive by the company to equip young people with the skills needed for a career in the technology sector.

Meanwhile South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has hosted an awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of graduates from the Entry to management graduate programme.

The 24-week academy trained 40 graduates across a diverse range of sectors where they completed a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) level 5 leadership and management qualification.

The graduates undertook an intensive management training programme with a strong focus on leadership, innovation, creative thinking, management and communication. 90 percent of participants received an offer of employment with their employers on completion of the programme.
