College Teaches Ballygowan Trailer Firm Lesson in Developing Potential

18th November 2013

A Ballygowan manufacturing company has joined forces with its further education college to explore new product design possibilities, enter new markets and streamline production processes.

Thanks to an educational partnership between South Eastern Regional College (SERC) and family run transport manufacturer, Motorsport Trailers, the company is making the most of SERC’s engineering expertise.

Working alongside the company, SERC produced a range of comprehensive 3D computeraided design drawings for its range of bespoke trailers, which combine a living and garaging area for cars, bikes, quads or karts — and all in a single chassis.

Paul McCartan, from Motorsport Trailers said: “The drawings have given us a fresh perspective on the design of the trailers.

“The design process is vital in order to identify areas of improvement while at the same time giving us a detailed plan to produce similar products to exact specifications.

“We are already reaping the benefits as the images secure immediate client buy-in to the designs, whilst saving development time and reducing costs across the business.

“Working with SERC has helped us shorten our turnaround, allowing us to focus on driving sales and export potential.

We have already seen an increase in enquiries from as far away as Finland.

“We are looking to further develop our partnership with the college and will be working closely with their students over the coming months to develop our existing website by improving functionality, search engine optimisation and multimedia content.

We are delighted with the outcome of the partnership and would encourage other businesses to talk to their local college when developing their products.”

SERC offer a wide range of solutions to meet the specific training needs of your organisation.
