More than 100 student placements are available with the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS). The scheme, which offers placements across a range of areas including accountancy, architecture, civil engineering, communications and law and policy, is open to students currently studying towards an undergraduate degree, who will have successfully completed their second year examinations by the end of the 2020/21 academic year and who have the opportunity to undertake a placement for the 2021/22 academic year.
Applications will be accepted from students who have had examinations postponed or cancelled due to circumstances surrounding Covid-19.
Launching the Civil Service student placement scheme, Finance Minister Conor Murphy said: “We have doubled the number of placements, helping more students develop skills and gain practical experience in a professional working environment. This will enhance students’ career prospects in whatever field of employment they want to work in, but there is a shortage of young people in the civil service so I hope that some of the students will consider the civil service a good career where they can make a difference to society.”
