Caterpillar to bring 200 jobs to west belfast

17th September 2013
OVER 200 high quality shared service jobs will create employment and training opportunities in Belfast..
Caterpillar, a world leader in manufacturing equipment, are creating the new posts with support from Invest NI who have offered £1.275million towards the plan.
The creation of the finance and human resources jobs in West Belfast have also been assisted by  the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) under its Assured Skills programme, with training support of £440,000.
The new investment by Caterpillar – which bought out FG Wilson in 1999 –is a result of crunch talks in America last year.  Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster says:
“Last year, Invest NI’s Alastair Hamilton and I travelled to the US and met with Caterpillar senior management to specifically discuss the company’s future plans in Northern Ireland. This investment project was discussed as part of that meeting. Since, then the team at Invest NI has worked tirelessly to secure the shared services positions for Northern Ireland and ensure that they were not lost to other potential locations in Europe.â€Â?
The Minister believes the investment demonstrates confidence in the Northern Ireland market at a time of increasing global competitiveness and is a credit to our local skills base.
Robert Kennedy, Caterpillar Northern Ireland Operations Director said: “As a global company, Caterpillar has to regularly evaluate key areas of business in order to remain internationally competitive. With the support from Invest NI and the government departments as well as the availability of key, essential skills in the professional shared services area, we are pleased to announce Northern Ireland as the location of choice for this expansion of services.â€Â?
Meanwhile, Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has congratulated NYSE Euronext on recruiting its 300th employee in Northern Ireland.
In 2009  the  global operator of financial markets and provider of innovative trading technologies announced that the technology arm of the company, with support from Invest Northern Ireland, planned to create technology, operational and corporate jobs in Belfast.
Speaking on a visit to NYSE Euronext, Arlene Foster said:
“As we work to secure similar quality investment in the face of increasing international competition, NYSE Euronext’s presence here sends a strong message to potential investors that Northern Ireland is one of the best locations in the world from which to grow their business.â€Â?
A spokeswoman from NYSE Euronext praised the skilled workforce on offer in Northern Ireland and encouraged potential candidates with an interest in the ICT sector to visit the company website at  http://www.nxyjobs.co.uk as the company continues its recruitment drive.
