Students as young as 14 will be given the opportunity to explore careers in Northern Ireland’s Film, TV, Animation and Games Industries.
The ScreenWorks programme, a partnership between Northern Ireland Screen and Into Film, will offer free specialist training from industry professionals in a series of short work placements aimed at GCSE students.
The aim of the initiative is to plug the skills gap by encouraging young people to seek out behind-the-scenes careers in the screen industries.
Sean Boyle from Into Film commented: “In the past year we’ve been working with older students, but we felt it was important to reach younger pupils before they make their A-Level choices. There are so many different jobs available in these industries, but often young people and their teachers and parents aren’t aware of the opportunities available right here in Northern Ireland.”
Places are still available for the first work placement for 14-16-year olds, which will be from June 11-13 on Art for Gaming run by Stephen Downey from Outsider Games and former Chairman of Games NI.
