Improve Your Chances of Employment Through Linkedin

17th November 2014

ROGER Gilpin, director of Gilpin Executive Search, offers his top tips on how to attract employers and access the hidden job market that headhunters operate in.

In today’s growing digital era, more employers than ever before are turning to the web to look for the perfect candidate to fill in a specified job vacancy.
By quite a margin, Linkedln is the preferred digital plat-form of choice for recruiters, with an astonishing 93% (Jobvite) using it to scope out potential talent.

Needless to say, if jobseek-ers want to make a good first impression, then they need to implement these simple steps:

UPLOAD A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPH:
In a professional context it is important to look presentable. Make sure your profile picture reflects this.

WRITE AN ENGAGING AND CONCISE SUMMARY
When drafting a summary, it must be concise but clearly state your expertise. Recruiters will use software to interrogate Linkedin and they’ll be using criteria to do so.

STATE YOUR CURRENT POSITION
If you are current-ly employed, it is important you clearly state what your responsibilities are and what you have achieved so that potential employers can eval-uate how you could add value to their business. If you are a student or unemployed, then use this section to highlight your ambitions for the future.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
Recruiters will stand up and take notice when they see an employment history that is relevant and engaging. Listing your achievements from each employment will also add authenticity.
