Career Academy engineering students from Northern Regional College recently joined 1,300 other teenagers in London for an exclusive behind the scenes introduction to over 75 influential London-based employers.
Speaking at the event, James McCreary, Career Academies UK chief executive, said: “Never has the relationship between student and employer been so crucial. Young people have to go the extra mile, be proactive and understand the basics of business in order to get ahead. Employers have to be more forthcoming and make a greater effort to engage with, and motivate, the talent on their doorsteps.”
Career Academy graduate, Sam Taylor, who was one of the winners of the inaugural Sir Winfried Bischoff Award told the students about his experiences on the Career Academy programme. Sam, who is now on Ernst & Young’s School Leaver programme, said:
“Two years ago I was sat where you are now and I never imagined I’d be here today talking to you about my Career Academy experiences. With hard work, determination and support from Career Academies UK, you too can achieve your dreams.”
Career Academies UK leads and supports a movement of over 1,000 employers and over 130 schools and colleges, working together to raise the aspirations of 16 to 19-year-olds.
