EXPERT careers advice is more accessible than ever thanks to the Careers Resource Centre.
With its new ‘drop in’ Saturday service, free careers information and guidance are now available six days a week.
Aiming to be equally relevant to those in employment and in need of advice as it is to job seekers, the new opening times will enable access to information outside their normal working hours.
Offering information and guidance to clients of all ages and abilities, the drop in service will run between 10am to 2pm at the Anne Street office, Belfast, with no appointment needed.
Encouraging Saturday shoppers to take advantage of the resource centre and shop for a new career, Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: “Careers guidance is often viewed as relevant only to young people.
“However it is equally valuable to everyone, including those in work, who are considering further education or training or a change in career direction.”
Commenting on the demand for flexibility he continued: “In order to cope with the future needs of the economy, we must ensure that effective careers services are accessible to everybody. By extending our opening hours, careers services will be more accessible to those clients who would otherwise have difficulty attending the office during the normal working week.”
“Saturday opening forms part of my department’s commitment to improve client access to the services we provide and builds up on the work currently ongoing within the careers service to enhance communication via interactive web service to assist in choosing a career.
“I would again urge anyone, of whatever age, seeking careers information, advice or guidance to contact their local Careers Resource Centre, JobCentre or Jobs and Benefits Office, call 0300 200 7820 or log onto http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/careers,” the minister concluded.
