Business summit focuses on leadership

23rd September 2015

BUSINESS leaders from across Northern Ireland are joining forces with the Institute of Directors (NI) and Queen’s University to develop a strategy to change local leadership culture.

Taking place today, the Strategic Leadership Summit, led by the IOD NI and the William J Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s, is the first of its kind to take place in Northern Ireland and is designed to help uncover new ways of behaving and doing business with a view to radicallygrowing the economy.

Sponsored by law firm Arthur Cox, it will bring together some of the most respected and influential leaders in Northern Ireland’s private and social enterprise sectors, and will have three key themes:

  • what does Northern Ireland offer to the world,
  • how do we get focused on the well-being of the Northern Ireland citizen and,
  • how do we structure ourselves to meet the challenges of rebalancing the economy and growing the private and social enterprise sectors.

The summit’s recommendations will be published and used in discussions with politicians and leaders from the private, public and third sectors, with the aim of them being taken on board in the development of the Assembly’s next Programme for Government.

Speaking ahead of the event, Anne Clydesdale, Director of the William J Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s, said: “This summit gives every business leader the opportunity to actively contribute, have their voice heard, and play their part in helping to shape a new vision for Northern Ireland.

“This is a great opportunity to have an input into how Northern Ireland performs and it is satisfying to note the number and calibre of local business leaders who will be present.”

Alan Taylor, Managing Partner at Arthur Cox Northern Ireland, said: “Much like the IOD NI and the William J Clinton Leadership Institute, Arthur Cox is passionate about leadership development and how it can impact our economy. We are delighted to show our support by sponsoring the event.”
