Kerr’s Tyres creates 14 jobs as part of £1m expansion plan

9th December 2014

Tyre distribution firm Kerr’s Tyres has announced it is to create 14 new jobs as part of a £1m expansion plan.

The new jobs come as the company confirmed it is to open a new Newtownards tyre centre in January.

The new positions span a range of disciplines from tyre fitters to IT staff and follow a number of significant contracts signed by the firm.

The jobs will be shared out across Kerr’s branches in Belfast, Antrim and Coleraine and come after a period of “sustained growth” in recent years, according to managing director, Norman Kerr.

“Following a review of our business plan we have decided that the time is right to invest in further growth and expansions for the business,” he said.

“We are particularly pleased to announce the opening of a new tyre centre in Newtownards to serve the Ards and North Down areas in the new year.”

The new jobs will be created across Kerr’s in Northern Ireland and will range from tyre fitters, breakdown fitters, mechanics, mobile mechanics, apprentices, IT personnel and assistant managers.

The new tyre centre is firm’s fourth outlet in Northern Ireland and the seventh across the UK.

It has three sub-outlets in England, in the Liverpool area, where it employs 40 people.

In recent months the company has clinched large fleet contracts with firms including Hannon Transport, Montgomery Transport and the Henderson Group,

The firm stocks a wide range of tyres and accessories and also carries out MOT checks, wheel balancing and alignment.

It services a range of customers from large fleet operators to individual motorists.
