Careers Event To Highlight Opportunities

8th September 2014

A new careers exhibition will take place this November 7 and 8 in the King’s Hall, Belfast. Organised by Horizons Belfast, with the Belfast Telegraph’s nijobfinder as media partner, the Horizons Opportunities Expo will provide expert guidance and advice to young people on how to get the most out of their chosen career.

Horizons Belfast is a new organisation, formed by a group of young entrepreneurs, working for the benefit of young people to highlight opportunities in Northern Ireland.

With the support of local universities, colleges and a range of employers across all sectors of the economy, the Horizons Expo hopes to show the many employment possibilities that exist in this country and to encourage young people to stand up for their future lives in NI rather than resigning themselves to emigration.

Horizons creative director Séamas de Faoite said: “At the beginning of this year a Belfast Telegraph/Lucid Talk poll of 16 to 24-year-olds suggested that 67% of young people did not see themselves having any future in Northern Ireland.

“With this event, our aim is to show young people the opportunities that exist in Northern Ireland and to encourage them to stay here and make a life for themselves.

Speaking on nijobfinder’s role as media partner, Belfast Telegraph marketing manager, Joanne Uprichard, said: “nijobfinder is proud to be a media partner for this ground-breaking recruitment expo.

“As Northern Ireland’s biggest job market, it is important for nijobfinder to help showcase all employment and training opportunities.”

In addition, nijobfinder recruitment advertising specialist, Colin Maxwell, said: “At nijobfinder we firmly believe in the employment opportunities that exist in Northern Ireland.”

The expo is also offering five new Northern Ireland based companies, organisations or schemes the chance to exhibit for free at the event.

Start up businesses and organisations who want to help change the lives of young people in NI are encouraged to apply for the competition at http://horizonsbelfast.wix.com/ horizonsbelfast#!free-exhibition- space/c20hn.

The closing date for applications is September 26 at 5pm.
