Customised Training for Manufacturing Sector

Northern Ireland’s manufacturing SME’s can now benefit from Computer Numerical Control (CNC) training through South Eastern Regional College, thanks to a new customised education programme.

The training, funded by the Department of Employment and Learning’s Skills Solution Customised Training Programme, is designed to upskill operators and uses equipment to focus on the operation and programming of CNC machines.

Co Down-based aerospace company Magellan Aerospace (Greyabbey) Ltd is upskilling 20 engineering technician in specialist CNC machining to ensure they have the technical skills and know-how to operate equipment which will improve component quality and production efficiency.

Magellan human resource manager Jennifer McFarland said: “Investment in technology and skills development is critical for enhancing productivity and building a competitive edge.”

“The training was designed to advance the knowledge and capabilities of our team. “

The competencies achieved by the course will increase efficiency by reducing cost, minimising waste and improving productivity.” She said.

SERC principal and chief executive Ken Webb said: “With little specialist CNC machine training available, SERC are addressing the skills hap through delivering a programme of 12-weel training course to meet the needs of the manufacturing sector.”
