Top Chef Gets A Taste Of Belfast Met’s Cookery Course

13th November 2013

DOUBLE Michelin-starred chef, Tom Kerridge, dropped into Belfast Metropolitan College to visit up and coming chefs on a recent trip to Northern Ireland.

Tom, who’s now starring in his first TV show, Proper Pub Food on BBC 2, was joined on the visit by one of his chefs, former Belfast Met student Andrew Provan.

Former professional cookery student Andrew showed the Hand & Flowers Founder around his former kitchens during a tour of the college facilities at the Titanic Quarter Campus.

Tom said: “I am delighted to come to Belfast Metropolitan College to see where some of my best chefs have trained. It is clear to see how talented the college’s cookery students are, and combined with the exceptional facilities available to them, I have no doubt that we will be seeing much more of these young chefs in the future.

“My two Northern Irish chefs are extremely hard working boys and have a great attitude for creativity and success.”

Marie-Therese McGivern principal of Belfast Met, added: “Our hospitality students prove their talent year-on-year by winning national skills competitions and gaining training and employment opportunities with some of the best restaurants not just in Northern Ireland, but all over the UK.

“Two of our former students now work as chefs for Tom Kerridge, so we are thrilled to welcome such a leading chef to Belfast Met for the first time.”

Former Belfast Met students Andrew Provan and Jonjo Kyles are now chefs at the Hand & Flowers pub in Buckinghamshire.

The pub won its first Michelin Star in 2006 and in 2011 was the first pub tobe awarded two Michelin Stars.
