Derry is playing host to what is expected to be the most successful jobs fair of its kind to date in the city.
Tomorrow’s fair, in the Millennium Forum between 10am and 4pm, has been organised by the Department for Employment and Learning in conjunction with Derry City Council, CultureTECH and EURES.
Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry said: “I welcome my department’s association with this Jobs Fair and Advice Forum which brings employers, support organisations and jobseekers together under one roof.
“Clearly this event demonstrates that, despite the current economic climate, employers are still looking to recruit both seasonal and permanent staff and that there are employment opportunities for jobseekers.”
A wide range of vacancies will be available, particularly with an emphasis on information technology (IT), media and creative industries in support of Digital Derry.
Advice and guidance will also be available on a range of training and re-skilling opportunities.
The minister continued: “A range of support organisations — for example my department’s careers service and employment service — will also be present to provide individuals with information, advice and guidance on a range of training and employment schemes, equipping them with the skills to compete in the labour market and meet the needs of employers both now and in the future.”
The city has played host to jobs fairs on previous occasions and organisers are confident that the forthcoming event will be the most successful yet, with the unique link up with the CultureTECH festival in support of UK City of Culture.
Industry professionals from the digital media and technology sectors will be hosting information sessions between 1pm and 2pm.
Large and small employers from across the north west will be available to answer questions, discuss training and employment opportunities.
