Young people to give record label job a spin

17th September 2013

A unique course is offering unemployed young people the key skills needed to gain employment in the music industry.

Open to all 16-24 year olds not in employment or education, the AccessThruMusic course is offered through the Prepared to Work Project run by Armstrong Learning NI.

The ten day course offers participants the opportunity to apply and be interviewed for a role within a record label. Once appointed they will work on the marketing campaign for a music artist signed to Universal.

By working alongside music industry professionals they will learn how a marketing team works and gain the hands on experience required to introduce an artist to the market place.

The free project is part funded by the European Social Fund and match funded by The Department of Employment and Learning and will provide lunch and travel for each attendee.

Armstrong Learning NI Business Manager, Connor Fitzgerald said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the young people of Northern Ireland. To have the chance to meet and work with mentors who have the experience and contacts is one thing but also to be able to work with artists signed to a major record label is something that most of us could only dream of. I wish there had been a course like this available when I was young and I know that everyone who has completed the programme already has loved every minute and achieved a lot personally from it, I would recommend it to anyone aged 16-24 who wants to find their key interest in life and requires a helping hand to kick start their future.”

The next course will begin on July 15 and will run every month until March. For more information visit www.accessthrumusic.wix.com/alni or phone 0330 123 3157.
