The Department of Justice has launched its first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Awareness Guide for staff.
Following on from guides on disability awareness and the needs of carers, today’s guide focuses on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) wwareness.
A fourth guide, on black and ethnic einorities, will be published later this year.
Justice Minister David Ford said: “My Department is committed to meeting the needs of a diverse workforce, which is representative of all parts of the community we serve. Our workplace must be inclusive and welcoming for all our staff and I welcome the publication of this important guide.
“I am committed to building a shared future for everyone in our society, where everyone can live together as equals and where there will be a mutual acceptance and understanding of diversity.
Nowhere is this more applicable than within the criminal justice system and I therefore believe that this guide will prove invaluable to departmental staff as they endeavour to make the system as accessible as possible to the entire community.”
