BELFAST Metropolitan College’s CoderDojo honoured students at a recent prize giving ceremony.
CoderDojo is a movement orientated around running free not-for-profit coding clubs which teach young people to learn how to write computer code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more.
Attending the prize giving was the Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Stephen Farry.
The Minister said: “I welcome the opportunity to present prizes and certificates to young people who are pursuing and developing an interest in computer programming and software development. ICT, and particularly software development, will be extremely important in ensuring our local economy experiences expansion and growth and these young people will hopefully be contributing to that growth in the not too distant future.
“It is vitally important that we encourage young people to pursue an interest in this area and that we ensure young people find these activities enjoyable and fulfilling. Initiatives such as this CoderDojo at Belfast Metropolitan College, and tools like the Raspberry Pi device, help ensure that our young people develop their skills in an accessible, interesting and exciting format.”
CoderDojo makes development and coding fun and Belfast Metropolitan College try to make it a sociable and rewarding experience which will hopefully encourage young people to pursue a career in ICT.
