If you’ve always dreamt of being the next Fatboy Slim, Annie Mac or David Guetta but weren’t sure where to start, Bounce Education is here to help.
Based in Londonderry with members hailing from London, New York, Paris, Ghana and Jamaica, it is a creative collective of arts facilitators in music, writing, design and photography which works in the mainstream education, youth employment and community sectors.
Bounce is involved in delivering the GCSE DJ performance qualification with a number of schools in Northern Ireland and can help prepare young people for working in the music industry through its OCN accredited qualifications in DJ performance and music making Level 2 and 3.
Kwa Daniels, founder of Bounce said: “For the past 13 years, Bounce has been using innovative teaching techniques to establish itself within mainstream and alternative education in interface areas and on both sides of the border.
“Using the latest music technology and a holistic approach to music and education, our workshops and courses aid personal development and help to develop the skills which are needed to work in today’s highly competitive music industry.”
Bounce DJ workshops and courses enable students of all ages to use music technology to achieve academic goals in numeracy, literacy and
IT. They also help to boost self-confidence, tackle motivational issues and improve communication and teamwork skills. Bounce has hosted workshops with young people facing a wide range of issues and challenges – from drug use and mental health to youth justice, unemployment and special needs – and has extensive experience in using music and culture as a tool of communication in the youth and community sectors.
In addition to its education programme, the collective also runs live events, has an online radio show and TV station which showcases the work of its students and has been invited onto the steering committee for the UK City of Culture Children’s Music Promise programme, which will be delivered from January 2013.
