Software Academy

If you’re interested in a career in Software, ten training opportunities are currently available at North West Regional College (NWRC). If you successfully complete the academy, you will gain industry recognised software qualifications and be considered for a potential job role with one of the supporting companies.

Training

The Software Academy is a ten-week intensive training course to prepare you for a job role in the IT sector under the Assured Skills Programme. Those selected for the Academy will study A4Q Software Development Engineer in Testing and two modules from OCN Level 4 Diploma in Software Testing.

  • Automated Software Testing Fundamentals
  • Structured Query Language (SQL) Fundamentals

If you successfully complete the course, you will be guaranteed a job interview with a supporting company.

Participants will receive £175 weekly training allowance for the duration of the Academy, as well as help with travelling and childcare costs.

Who can apply?

Applicants must:

  • be at least 18 years old by Monday 04 November 2024
  • have reached a basic level of skills and knowledge in the area of software development and/or software testing such that they are able to develop and test rudimentary software programs. Preferable level 3 in an IT related area
  • have achieved GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above or equivalent.
  • be eligible to work in the UK at the time of application
  • pass a pre-course proficiency test and interview

In the event that a large number of applications are received the minimum criteria may be enhanced, based on qualifications and experience outlined in your application, in order to get a manageable shortlist for interviews.

Interview and training dates

NWRC will invite eligible applicants to attend an Information session Week Commencing Monday 14 October 2024 and a proficiency test and interview that will take place week commencing Monday 21 October 2024 at the Derry/Londonderry Campus.

Successful applicants will attend intensive training at NWRC’s dedicated training venue in their Derry/Londonderry Campus for the duration of the Academy detailed below:

Training will be in Campus on Mondays and Tuesdays 9.00am-5.00pm, Wednesday 9.00am to 4.00pm, and 5 hours online every Thursday and Friday, starting Monday 04 November 2024 to Friday 24 January 2025.
