MCS Group is delighted to be working with a leading employer based in Belfast, with the recruitment of a Global Business Travel Manager for a leading global law firm.

This role is Hybrid Working (3 Days in Belfast City Centre (State of the Art Office) + 2 days Working From Home)

Responsibilities

The Global Business Travel Manager role will sit within the procurement team and will oversee the design, planning and execution of the firm's travel programme. The role holder will influence a spend of ~£35-50m a year, spanning across all offices.

This is a new role to the firm as it transitions from a local office led travel management approach to a matrix (hub & spoke) one. The role holder will design, embed and manage a global travel programme that fulfils the complex management, reporting, risk and compliance needs of leading global law firm.

Overall responsibility for the firm wide travel programme governance and operating model, including

  • Working with the Global CFO, Global Mobility and ESG to set the global travel policy and global travel strategy;
  • Working with local CFOs and local travel representatives in implementing global strategy and initiatives and to assure compliance with travel policy; and
  • Lead on any global travel comms and training.

Travel vendor management; (TMCs, airline route deals; global hotel deals), including:

  • Strategic supplier sourcing and contract negotiations to ensure competitive pricing , quality service and compliance with firms travel and expenses policies; and
  • Performance benchmarking and reporting.

Global travel service management; including:

  • Managing the global performance of the firm's panel of approved travel management companies, ensuring that they continually meet agreed service levels;
  • Act as point of escalation for local travel coordinators where approved panel fail to meet expected service levels;
  • Work with the firms travel security and incident response teams to ensure emergency response plans are in place, including communication and assistance during any crises or unforeseen events; and
  • Stay current with industry trends and travel technology advancements, continuously seeking opportunities to enhance travel management processes and support eco-friendly travel practices in alignment with the firm's ESG targets.

Global travel data maintenance and reporting; including:

  • Ensuring the firms travel management companies are continually and accurately feeding required data to the compliance travel tracker tools, data aggregators and carbon reporting tools to enable the effective operation of the firm's travel risk, compliance management and carbon reporting solutions

The Ideal Person

  • Strategic implementer who can design, manage and continually improve a global travel programme and enabling operating model, adding insight and identifying opportunities to leverage high value opportunities whilst managing travel risks and balancing the high expectation of the firm's travelling population.
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills at all levels with the presence required to engage with senior members of the firm and a proven ability to develop, maintain and enhance relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and in a transitional environment (moving from a locally managed travel operating model to a matrix operating model, complicated further by the merger), where the success of is primarily dependent on influence and persuasion (versus mandate).
